A good place to start your visit is the observation deck on the 30th floor of the enormous Palace of Culture and Science, a present to the Poles from Stalin. Looking down on the city you will see it covers a huge area.
Luckily for visitors the restored Old Town (most of Warsaw was destroyed in World War II) has a number of must-see attractions in close proximity, plus plenty of nice cafes and restaurants. See the Royal Castle and its art treasures, then head to the old town square for the Warsaw City Museum.
It’s hard to escape the devastating consequences the Second World War had on Warsaw, and a visit to the Warsaw Uprising Museum should really be on anyone’s itinerary to this city. A further reminder of the horrors of that time is the chilling Pawiak Prison museum.
For a more upbeat experience, enjoy a stroll through beautiful (and big) Lazienki Park.
Music lovers may enjoy a visit to the Chopin Museum, who spent the first 20 years of his life in this city.
More culture and history is on display at the Polish National Museum.
After spending your day walking around the city (or use the trams), the cafes in the old town square provide a good environment to enjoy some food, Polish beer or coffee.
